NT: Major native title decision to be handed down later today

The federal court will rule on Australia's first native title claim over a substantial
area inside a capital city.

The claim .. by nine Larrakia families .. covers 575 square km of crown land in Darwin
and its satellite town of Palmerston.

It covers 250 pockets of crown land .. mostly on the outskirts .. including reserves
and beaches down to the low-water mark.

Justice JOHN MANSFIELD will hand down his decision at 3.30 pm (CST) .. on whether the
group has maintained a continuous connection with the land .. through traditional laws
and customs.
