WA: Family members to commemorate Sydney crew

Family members of those who perished on HMAS Sydney commemorate this morning the 645
men that went down with the Australian warship.

They left Geraldton yesterday to travel to the site of the wreck off the West Australian
coast for a memorial service on board HMAS Anzac.

The wreck was found last month after the Finding Sydney Foundation search team located
the wreck of the German raider Kormoran.

The two ships sank off the WA coast after a fierce battle on November 19 .. 1941.

While most of the Kormoran's crew survived the sinking .. all 645 crew on the Sydney
lost their lives after a torpedo struck Sydney's bow.

Five relatives of the ship's crew were randomly chosen from a ballot of family representatives
.. and are this morning aboard HMAS Anzac at the site of the wreck.
