Qld: Climate change initiatives to hurt hip pockets: economist

A leading economist says new measures to combat climate change .. will hit Australians
in the hip pocket.

ROSS GARNAUT says setting up a national emissions trading scheme and adopting new forms
of energy .. will cause some financial pain.

But he says doing nothing would cost the nation more .. and Australia will be one of
the most damaged of the developed countries .. if climate change is allowed to continue.

Professor GARNAUT'S compiling a report for Prime Minister KEVIN RUDD on emissions trading
and its impacts .. to be released in June.
