Vic: Water wasters face shower bans
MELBOURNE, Dec 29 AAP - Serial water wasters will have their water supply reduced to
a trickle under tough new water bans.
Stage three restrictions, beginning on New Years Day, will enable water authorities
to cut water pressure to wasteful homes, News Limited reports today.
Under the drastic move, offending householders would not have enough water to shower.
Supply would initially be restricted for two days and offenders would have to pay a
fee to have their water pressure restored.
About 140 water police will enforce the new measures, restricting water flow from 40
litres a minute to two for water wasters.
"Having your water supply reduced to a trickle for a number of days should be a strong
deterrent for people thinking they can get away with it," South East Water managing director
Denis Cavagna said."
